JobWhat Insights
JobWhat Insights is the public side of the JobWhat community: an activity map, weekly trending companies, company pages, salaries by role and metro, and a benefits comparison. Everything is aggregated from people using the extension and published with a delay.
Preview: Until there's enough real community data, the site shows clearly labelled sample data (a banner on every page says so), and none of those pages are indexed by search engines.

Where the data comes from
- Reviews, ratings, pay and benefits are the ones people submit from the extension (see company reviews and pay & benefits). The website uses stricter thresholds than the extension.
- Hiring activity (map, trending, company activity) comes from the Share anonymous company activity (JobWhat Insights) setting below.
Share anonymous company activity (JobWhat Insights)
In Settings → Advanced, this switch sends, for jobs you apply to, save (Watching) or view:
- the company name,
- the role family worked out from the title (for example Software engineering, Product management); the title itself is not sent,
- the job's location, which the server turns into a metro, and whether it's onsite, hybrid or remote,
- the day it happened.
It never sends job titles, links, job ids, notes, your profile or résumé.
On by default, with a notice. The first time you open the popup after updating, a short notice explains the feed, with Got it and Turn off buttons. Nothing is sent until you've seen it.
Off when community sharing is off. If Share anonymous activity with the community map is off, company activity is off too. It's also off while sample community data is on, and sample jobs are never sent.
How it's protected
- No identity stored. Your random install id is replaced on the server by a keyed hash that changes every day. The id, your IP address, links and titles are never stored.
- Thresholds. A map area needs at least 50 events from 5 different people. A company needs 8 different people before it can trend. Pay and ratings have their own minimums, and small companies need double.
- Complementary suppression. When hiding a small group would still let someone work it out by subtraction (for example, a national total minus the metros shown), the neighbouring numbers are hidden too.
- Delay and rounding. Data runs to two days ago, weekly editions publish a few days after the week ends, pay is rounded to $5K, and counts are rounded.
- Anti-gaming. Views are capped per person per company per day, no single contributor or network can make up more than 20% of a company's day, and installs less than 48 hours old don't count.
- Retention. Raw daily rows are deleted after 120 days; only the published aggregates remain.
Turning it off
Settings → Advanced → turn off Share anonymous company activity (JobWhat Insights). Anything queued but not yet sent is discarded straight away. Because activity is anonymous and merged into totals, it can't be traced back to you or removed individually.
