Pay & benefits

Every job in the job log has a Pay button next to the Review button. It opens the Pay & benefits tab: what other jobwhat users were offered or are paid for that role, how the posted range compares, and which benefits are common. You can share your own pay in about a minute. Everything is anonymous and rounded.

The Pay button

The dollar icon sits in the actions column of every table row and at the top right of every swimlane card.

Counts are fetched in one small batch for the jobs on screen, together with company ratings and interview-review counts, and kept for ten minutes.

The side panel

The panel has three tabs: Interview reviews, Pay & benefits and Company (see Company reviews). The Pay tab shows:

• Scope — the exact role and level when enough people shared it. Otherwise it widens step by step (all locations → the whole job family → all levels at the company) and says so.
• Median base, the middle 50% and median total comp, plus bonus, equity and sign-on when people shared them.
• Range bar — the community spread, with this job's posted range drawn on top and a verdict (in line / below / above). The posted range is compared on your computer; it is never uploaded.
• By level and Benefits — how common each benefit is among the people who answered.
• Submissions — individual rounded rows, filterable by offer / current / past and by onsite / hybrid / remote.

Sharing your pay

Pick what it is (an offer, your current pay or a past job), the level and your base pay. Everything else is optional: bonus, equity, sign-on, years of experience, work setup and a benefits checklist. The form shows a live "≈ total comp / yr".

• Numbers are rounded to $5K before anyone sees them. The title, company and location come from the job; your name and email are never attached.
• New submissions publish after a random 0–72 hour delay while a role has fewer than 10 of them, so a new row can't be matched to you by timing.
• Values far outside the norm (5× above or below the median) are held for review instead of published.
• You can edit or delete your submission any time from the same panel.

Thresholds, Free and Pro

Below the threshold you see progress dots ("2 of 5 people needed"), never partial numbers.

Give to get: on Free, you see the median as a $10K band. Share your pay once and every number unlocks for 12 months. Pro unlocks everything without sharing. The free trial counts as Free here — only an active Pro subscription unlocks without sharing.

Offer prompt

When you move a job to Offer (or Hired / Accepted), a small card offers to compare the offer: enter the base for a quick comparison, share the full offer, see what others got, or get a reminder in three days. If the job was also in an interview stage, the card links to updating your interview review too — only one card shows at a time. Turn off pay prompts on the card turns this off; so does Pay prompts in Settings.

On job pages

On LinkedIn and Indeed job pages, a small JobWhat community card sits under the jobwhat chips: the company's star rating, the median base for the role and a verdict against the posted range. Click it to expand the details; your choice is remembered. It shows nothing when there's no data or the service is unavailable, and after you close the empty card twice it stays quiet. The posted range is read from the page and compared locally — it's never sent anywhere.

Privacy

• Stored without your name, email or employer account. Your install id is hashed; it's only used to let you edit your own rows and to rate-limit.
• Free text is not collected for pay. Titles are mapped to a level and job family.
• Turn off Show community pay & benefits in Settings and the Pay button, counts, tab and prompts disappear and nothing is fetched.
